The Dental Implant Process in Las Cruces, NM

Your Initial Consultation With Dr. Borham

Dental implants are the most effective way to restore missing teeth, and we’ll make sure you’re completely satisfied with your results. That’s why Dr. Borham will get to know you and find out your oral needs during your first consultation with him.

We’ll take a 3D digital impression of your mouth using an i-CAT CBCT machine. This impression gives us a comprehensive look at the density and volume of the bone, the site of your missing tooth, and the nearby nerves. It also allows us to optimally plan your treatment for stronger, longer-lasting results.

The digital impressions will be sent to our laboratory to be created into physical impressions, which Dr. Borham will use as a guide when placing your actual dental implants.

Placing Your Implants

After you’ve chosen one of our implant solutions, you’ll come back to our office to have your new restorations placed. While the procedure is different for each patient, we can sometimes place your implants in just one day. In other cases, placement may take two to three separate appointments.

Your comfort is a priority to us, so we’ll provide you an anesthetic to numb the areas around the surgical site. If you suffer from dental anxiety, we can offer you a sedative to help you relax.

Using Osseointegration to Create a Strong Base

We make sure your implants are as functional as possible, which is why we place them into your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. This allows the implant fixtures to integrate with your jawbone, creating new bone tissue to firmly hold them in place.

While your jaw is healing from this procedure, we might place a temporary prosthetic on the implant fixtures so that you don’t have to live another day without a complete smile.

Restoring Your Smile

Once your implant fixtures have fully healed, Dr. Borham will attach your stunning porcelain crowns to them using titanium abutment connecting pieces. This will ensure that your new teeth will function like natural ones and remain healthy for years to come.

Your dental implants will allow you to eat whatever foods you please and speak with ease. You’ll no longer have to feel self-conscious about your missed teeth or ill-fitting dentures because your restoration will look so real others won’t even be able to tell they’re not your natural teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is osseointegration?

Osseointegration is a necessary step in the dental implant process in which an artificial implant is permanently and surgically anchored into the jaw bone. It then integrates into the bone and grows into the implant for a stable, reliable foundation for your new restoration. Without osseointegration, the dental implant would not heal successfully for long-lasting results.

How long does the dental implant procedure take?

Generally, the dental implant process requires two surgical procedures and can take anywhere from six to eight months. This is dependent on several factors, such as the number of implants placed and whether a supplemental procedure is required.

The only way to get an accurate timeline of your treatment plan is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Borham. He’ll review your medical history, examine your oral health, and create a customized treatment plan with a detailed outline of your procedures.

Can you get a dental implant in one day?

Yes, it is possible to get a dental implant in as little as one day. Dr. Borham offers immediate same-day implants to help you achieve a complete smile as soon as you leave our office. It works similar to the traditional implant process, but we’ll use four to eight titanium fixtures to restore an entire arch of teeth.

However, the number of implants placed depends on the sufficiency of your jaw bone density. To learn more, give us a call at (575) 523-5589 and a knowledgeable member of our staff will explain the process in detail.

How painful is getting a dental implant?

With sedation dentistry, getting a dental implant at Mesilla Valley Family Dentistry is completely pain-free. We’ll apply a local anesthetic to numb the area around the surgical site so you won’t feel a thing. Dr. Borham can also offer you a sedative to help you feel comfortable throughout the implant process. It’s safe, effective, and allows you to relax while we complete your new, beautiful smile.
